Town Origin
The Mount Baker region, which includes the communities of Glacier, Maple Falls, and Kendall, developed as a gateway to the North Cascades and the Mount Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest. Early settlers were drawn to the area for logging, mining, and access to the Nooksack River. As the Mount Baker Highway (SR‑542) was completed in the 1930s, the region evolved into a recreational hub, supporting travelers heading to the Mount Baker Ski Area and the surrounding alpine trails. Today, the area maintains its rustic mountain charm while serving as a peaceful retreat for residents and visitors.
